GUBI Has Reissued Pierre Paulin's "F300" Chair

Danish design brand GUBI has brought an archival design from Pierre Paulin back into production. Created by the French designer in the late 60s, the F300 has gone on to gain cult classic status, but until now has only been available through vintage resellers.

Working alongside Benjamin Paulin, the son of Pierre Paulin, GUBI has meticulously replicated the details of the original chair, but has applied a few changes to make it more suitable for 21st-century living.

The futurist shape and fluid curves that make the F300 instantly recognisable remain intact. But a key update comes in the form of a change in material. When the chair was first manufactured, its shell was produced in fiberglass and injected polyurethane. Now, to keep up with an increasing demand for responsibly crafted furniture, the seat is formed from an engineered polymer that uses industrial plastic waste.

Color selections are extended, too. The shell comes in a bright alabaster white and a very light pastel green hue. Upholstery arrives in variety of colors, from bold yellow to a deep red.

“The F300 perfectly embodies my father’s approach to design and the balance between sculpture, elegance, and comfort he sought in his work,” Benjamin Paulin says. “It’s true that the F300 is a visually striking chair with a distinct playfulness and a strong sense of character, but it’s much more than a photogenic sculptural novelty. The design is rooted in research and a practical understanding of how people sit. Such is the F300’s shape that it is almost impossible not to relax when you sit in it.”

Alongside the reissue of the chair, GUBI is bringing back the T877 side table, which is crafted from the same material as the F300 shell, but comes in new colours: Violet Ice, Honey Gold, and Molé.

The T877 and F300 are available in stores from mid-May, with prices at £299 GBP ($399 USD) and £1,799 GBP ($2,299 USD) respectively.
