Packer Reimagines Timberland's 3-Eye Lug Handsewn Boat Shoe With "Santa Fe" Flair
Inspired by the American Southwest, the dessert-hued design boasts a turquoise bolo-tie lace gem.
Streetwear retailer Packer has partnered with Timberland to recast the 1978-born 3-Eye Lug Handsewn Boat Shoe with a Southwest-American sensibility. Aptly dubbed the “Santa Fe” model, the classic men’s footwear silhouette is imbued with a new, more adventurous spirit through aesthetic hallmarks that evoke the dry terrain of the region and its vibrant Indigenous cultures.
Inspired by the area’s “legacy of craftsmanship,” the uppers combine a mixture of beige and tan suede, reminiscent of the textiles used by North America’s Indigenous people and the styles that emerged in the Old West. Perhaps even more on the nose is the incorporation of a braided leather lace that resembles a bolo tie adorned by a turquoise stone. The brilliant blue gem has been incorporated in Native American material culture for thousands of years.
Additionally, bolo ties, have their roots in the 1930s from Zuni, Hopi and Navajo tribes. Silver hardware, including textured eyelets and prominent lace ends, further emphasizes the Americana flair. Sitting atop a tan outsole, lugged for extra traction, the elegant model is just as functional as it is designed.
