Popular K-Pop group NJZ, formerly known as NewJeans has announced their hiatus in the midst of their record label drama. The quintet recently performed a show in Hong Kong and announced on stage that they would temporarily pause all group activities until all is settled.

The group, which consists of members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin and Hyein, announced that the performance in Hong Kong would be their last in a while. While their lengthy legal dispute with their record label ADOR continues, all group activities will be suspended for the time being. There is no word on when they will perform again. ADOR, whose parent company is HYBE Corporation, has been responsible for managing major K-Pop acts including BTS, Le Sserafim and Enhypen. Earlier last week, Seoul courts ruled in favor of ADOR in the NewJeans management dispute. The HYBE-owned label said, ” With our status as NewJeans’ exclusive agency now legally affirmed, we are fully committed to supporting the artists going forward. At the time of the court ruling, NJZ posted their own statement which read, “Hello, this is NJZ. Today, the court issued a provisional injunction decision. We, NJZ, respect the court’s decision. However, we believe that the decision did not sufficiently take into account the fact that the members’ trust in ADOR has been completely destroyed.”

On stage, Hanni addressed the crowd in English, “It is really hard for us to say this but this might be our last performance for a little while. Out of respect for the court’s decision, we’ve decided to pause all our activities for now. It wasn’t an easy decision but we believe this is something we need to do at this moment.” Danni added, “Honestly, we’ve known from the start that this journey wasn’t going to be easy—and even though we accept the court’s ruling and this whole process, we had to speak up to protect the values that we believe in and that was a choice that we don’t regret at all. We truly believe that standing up for our dignity, our rights, and everything we just deeply care about is something that we had to do and that belief will not change.” A hearing is scheduled for April 3.

The group gained popularity with hits such as “Super Shy,” “Hype Boy” and “OMG” since their debut in 2022. During their performance in Hong Kong they debuted a new song titled “Pit Stop.”
