  • Grand Seiko unveiled four new watches, spanning two GMT models and two Quartz models
  • The dials are inspired by subtle scenery and seasonal cues in Japan during the fall-to-winter transition

Grand Seiko is expanding its foundational collections with a quartet of new timepieces, introducing two new automatic mechanical GMT models to the Elegance Collection alongside two quartz models in the Heritage Collection. Continuing the Japanese brand’s tradition of translating the ephemeral beauty of the Japanese landscape into horological offerings, the new releases are inspired by moments of natural beauty in the Shinshu region, ranging from snow melting under spring sunshine to the quiet shimmer of dew drops under autumn moonlight. View the lineup below and keep an eye out on Grand Seiko’s official website for when the watches officially release in December.

SBGX357 “Skyflake”

The SBGX357 “Skyflake” is a new quartz addition to the Heritage Collection, instantly recognizable by its distinct light blue dial. Its textured dial draws inspiration from the snow-covered mountains of Shinshu under a clear sky. This is paired with a tempered blue seconds hand and protected by a dual-curve sapphire crystal. Inside, the watch is powered by the Caliber 9F62 quartz movement, renowned for its precision of ±10 seconds per year. Releasing in December, the “Skyflake” boasts a retail point of $4,100 USD.

SBGX265 9F “Blue” 37

A classic interpretation of Grand Seiko’s quartz craftsmanship, this reference comes encased in 37mm stainless steel in a slim-wearing profile. Its rich, sunray blue dial provides a vibrant yet understated elegance, complemented by a date display at 3 o’clock and polished indices that enhance legibility.

At its heart is the Caliber 9F62 quartz movement, delivering the same high accuracy of ±10 seconds per year as seen in the “Skyflake.” With its robust construction and instant date-change function, the SBGX265 is both practical and refined, embodying the Heritage Collection’s philosophy of timeless design reinterpreted with modern precision, while boasting a $2,700 USD price tag.

SBGM257 “Moondrop”

Also part of the Elegance Collection, “Moondrop” is an automatic mechanical GMT that expresses a moment of autumnal beauty: dew drops gleaming in soft moonlight . The timepiece is distinguished by its deep navy-blue textured dial with a modern geometric spiral pattern. This intricate pattern recalls how dew drops gleam in the moonlight, creating a rich contrast with the gold-colored GMT hand that tells the time in 24 time zones.

Inside, the Caliber 9S66 automatic GMT provides dual time capability, a 72-hour power reserve, and accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds per day. The tempered blue 24-hour hand adds a subtle flourish, while the sapphire caseback reveals the finely decorated movement. The “Moondrop” blends classic elegance with modern refinement, with lugs featuring an intricate slope and mirror surfaces created through expert Zaratsu polishing, resulting in a sophisticated and graceful aesthetic.

SBGM2SS “Snowdrop”

While “Moondrop” evokes the quiet glow the autumnal moonlight, its counterpart, “Snowdrop” captures the fleeting beauty of melting snow as winter transitions into spring. Its patterned white dial reflects the shimmer of snowmelt in sunlight, a poetic nod to the seasonal landscapes near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture. The 39.5mm stainless steel case, box-shaped sapphire crystal and crocodile leather strap echo the brand’s classic GMT design language, offering timeless refinement.

Like its sibling, the watch is driven by the reliable Caliber 9S66 GMT movement and housed in a 39.5mm stainless steel case. Both the “Moondrop” and “Snowdrop”will be officially released in December and priced at are priced at $5,400 USD.
