Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz Reportedly Returning for New ‘The Mummy’ Film

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reportedly reuniting for a brand new The Mummy film.

As per THR, the franchise stars are currently in discussions for The Mummy 4, with Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) set to direct. It remains to be seen whether the likes of John Hannah, Patricia Velasquez, Oded Fehr and Arnold Vosloo will reprise their roles.

No specific information was revealed, however sources claim that the project will be a sequel that “disregard[s] the events of the third movie” instead of a reboot.

David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay while Sean Daniel, who produced the original films, will also return. William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein will produce via Project X Entertainment.

Stephen Sommers’ remake of the 1932 film starred Fraser as treasure hunter Rick O’Connell and Weisz as librarian Evelyn Carnahan. The two, joined by Hannah as Evelyn’s brother Jonathan, accidentally awaken the cursed high priest Imhotep (Vosloo) and must save the world before his curse takes over. The first film was followed by The Mummy Returns, which included the addition of their son Alex and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as The Scorpion King.

The first two films were commercial successes, grossing over $400 million USD each. Rob Cohen took over for Sommers for Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, which also saw Maria Bello replace Weisz as Evelyn. Universal rebooted the franchise in 2017 with Tom Cruise but received negative reviews.
