Michael B. Jordan is reportedly in early talks to take on the iconic role of undercover detective Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in Universal Pictures’ big-screen reboot of Miami Vice. The film, which promises to revive the stylish, neon-soaked world of the 1980s television series, is set to be directed by Top Gun: Maverick and F1 filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.

Jordan, fresh off the success of his work on the Creed franchise and his darkly acclaimed role in Sinners, is engaging with the project after scheduling was adjusted to accommodate his growing list of directing duties. If the deal closes, he will be the third actor to portray Tubbs, a role originated by Philip Michael Thomas in the 1984 TV series and later played by Jamie Foxx in Michael Mann’s 2006 film adaptation.

The reboot is set to begin production next year for an August 6, 2027, release. The script, co-written by Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler) and Eric Warren Singer (Top Gun: Maverick), is inspired by the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami.
