Update: A month following A Ma Maniére’s surprise tease of Salehe Bembury’s next New Balance collab, the designer has released an official video trailer and campaign for the model. Named “GROWTH BE THE TREE” the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 1500 is set for release on February 6 at 9 am PST at Bembury’s Be a Spunge web store.

On Monday afternoon, a Salehe Bembury x New Balance collaboration was unveiled by sneaker retailer A Ma Maniere. Poised for a January release at $275 USD, Bembury’s latest collaboration with New Balance adds small touches of color to a 1500 model rendered in a neutral-hued suede.
For the uppers, warm beige suede overlays contrast with cool gray mesh over the toebox and gray leather at the collar. Bright yellow embroidery appears on the co-branded tongue and the backside where New Balance’s NB emblem resides.
However, the colorful soles seem to be where the focus lies in the design. Butter-colored midsoles feature a block of brown at the heel and a purple and orange accent on the lateral side. The mostly gray outsoles feature a green panel at the center of the arch and an electric blue heel panel.
In a departure from the expressive language of the designer’s recent Crocs collaborations like the Pollex Juniper, his New Balance 1500 is decidedly understated and traditional. Unveiled at the same time last year Salehe Bembury’s New Balance 1906R “Heat Be Hot” was also quite the opposite, boasting silver overlays and flame-colored gradient uppers occupying a retrofuturistic silhouette.
