Mattias Gollin's Rockstar "Replica Suit" Is Made of 50 Vintage Belts
The design, inspired by Maison Margiela’s Fall 2012 H&M collection, is currently on view at Antonia’s boutique in Milan.
Crafty Italian designer Mattias Gollin (the statement-driven visionary behind those pearly Moon Boots released last week) is back with his next fashionable undertaking: a one-of-one “Replica Suit” made out of 50 studded, illuminating and textural belts from Los Angeles’ Hollywood Trading Company.
The rockstar design was inspired by Maison Margiela’s Fall 2012 H&M collaboration, which featured plenty re-editions of the House’s most celebrated and experimental silhouettes. Notably, Margiela’s “Replica” line houses an entourage of diligent remakes of hand-picked vintage silhouettes from across the globe. The “Replica Suit” has historically been meticulously conceptualized based on the brand’s worldly findings, and naturally, the H&M team-up paid homage to the Maison’s best pieces.
Here, Gollin’s “Replica Suit” employs vintage relics of its own, sourcing all of its belts from Hollywood Trading Company’s impressive (and obsessive) archive of vintage, American leather accessories. The result, pictured above, is worth a triple-take.
