JPEGMAFIA Unleashes "PROTECT THE CROSS"
Lifted from the imminent ‘I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU – Director’s Cut.’
JPEGMAFIA‘s I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU – the rapper’s fifth studio album that he dropped back in August – marked a high-point for Peggy, putting his captivating capability of blending the IRL and URL on display, shining light on his ability to mix nostalgic, soulful samples with his slick internet-era production. Peggy isn’t out of the woods with I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU quite yet, having revealed his plans to expand the album yet again on what he’s calling the “Director’s Cut” version of the LP.
The re-branded “deluxe” iteration is set to span 12 new tracks, some of which, per a press release, are songs from the album sessions threaded into the original tracklist, while others are brand new tracks compiled into a fresh second disc. The original album features samples and contributions from Denzel Curry, Vince Staples and Buzzy Lee, though its unclear whether the Director’s Cut will come complete with any new guest artists.

However, we did get the first glimpse of the project’s Director’s Cut, with its first official single “PROTECT THE CROSS,” which Peggy presented to the world on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. ” The track fits the I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU sonic profile to a tee, reliant on high-octane rock and roll tropes and heavy instrumentation. The cut comes accompanied with a music video that Peggy dubs an “exploration” into patriotism.
