Ricco/Maresca Gallery invites audiences to step into Adrift in the Corners of Time, a solo exhibition by Ian Ferguson aka Hydeon. In a showcase of over 20 paintings, the new series conjures scenes from an imagined video game for the future PlayStation 6, welcoming viewers into the artist’s world of  ancient landscapes and steel-clad odysseys.

Hydeon’s work begins with a wide gamut of stylistic inspiration, brought together through a curious, anachronistic aperture. Ranging from medieval, baroque and Victorian to art brut, science fiction and video game art, the collection is anchored by an unexpected harmony of these disparate temporalities.

While fantastical in their appearance, the works reimagine moments in the artist’s life, where the characters, architecture and imagery serve as conduits for personal exploration. Each scene offers a striking balance between clarity and ambiguity where the boundaries of reality dissolve into the possibilities of the unknown. In this space, rich with the beating energy of survival and discovery, it is up to us to choose our own adventure.

Adrift in the Corners of Time is now on view online and at the gallery through February 1, 2025.
