Crunchyroll Announces Anime Series Based on 'Ghost of Tsushima: Legends'

An anime based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is currently in the works, with the series set for a 2027 release. The announcement was made during Sony Group Corporation’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) press conference.

Developers Sucker Punch Productions is teaming up with Crunchyroll, Aniplex (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Solo Leveling, Sword Art Online), Sony Music and PlayStation Productions to create the series. Takanobu Mizuno will serve as director, KAMIKAZE DOUGA will handle the animation and Gen Urobuchi is joining the project for Sony Composition.

Plot details were not revealed; its source material, Legends, is Ghost of Tsushima’s co-op multiplayer game inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology, and allows players to choose from four classes and take on missions based on Japanese mythology. The anime promises to combine the game’s traditional samurai aesthetics with cinematic storytelling and striking visuals, with more details set to be revealed in the future.

Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, added, “Having already proven the immense quality and versatility of our gaming properties across multiple successful film and television projects, we couldn’t be more excited to announce our first ever anime adaptation.” Qizilbash continued, “Ghost of Tsushima’s rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions’ hit video game into a stunning new anime series.”
