Inside 1880 Hong Kong’s Newly Opened Space
Located in one of the city’s prime business districts.

Originating from Singapore, the 1880 members-only social club will make its debut in Hong Kong. Set to unveil near the end of the year, 1880 Hong Kong will take over four floors of Two Taikoo Place, a Swire Properties building primely located in Hong Kong Island’s eastern business district.
According to founder Marc, Nicholson, the idea of 1880 has lived in his mind ever since he moved to Singapore back in 2002. “I felt there was room in the market for a place where investors, creators, and entrepreneurial minds could gather for business and social life,” he elaborates. While a members-only club prides itself in its exclusivity and luxurious environments, 1880 is all about celebrating ideas and gathering passionate individuals who will shape Asia in the near future.
Every floor serves a different function, with the first three floors taking on a new business casual concept, the 1880 SOCIAL club, while the luxurious 1880 Hong Kong members’ club dominates the entire top floor. The 1880 Hong Kong members club occupies the fourth floor, equipped with its signature restaurant outpost, Leonie’s alongside spa and gym facilities.
1880 SOCIAL proffers a selection of culinary experiences, ranging from Hoi Polloi’s Southeast Asian cuisine, American diner The Sports Bar, coffee and wine at The Double to Té Bo for fine dining. On the third floor, members can have access to the working lounge, a large-scale conference event space as well as a range of high-spec meeting rooms.
Designed by AvroKO, Project Director Patrick Ho explains that the interior design for “1880 Hong Kong draws inspiration from the rich industrial heritage of the Taikoo sugar refinery, reinterpreting its legacy with a refined elegance.” With curated furnishing and custom decorative lighting, every element is conceptualized to echo the various stages of sugar refinement.
The conceptual journey of the interior design begins on the lower floors, “where lush sugar canes inspire the evocative space with smooth, fluted forms and subtle green accents, reminiscent of verdant cane fields,” Ho describes, adding that “faceted lighting and furniture embody the crystallization of sugar, while the molasses-inspired forms on the fourth floor Members Club foster a sense of togetherness, mirroring the journey from raw material to the sophisticated final result.”
