On Set With Honey Balenciaga, the Ballroom Phenom Sent From the Stars
A look into the physicality powering the dancer’s dynamic movement with the Samsung Galaxy Ring.
“I know I’m Honey, but I ain’t that sweet,” Miss Honey Balenciaga jokingly snaps over the phone. Someone is catching heat, quickly made aware that, despite her ethereal presence, she is indeed a Brooklyn girl, not to be played with. This fierce persona has solidified Honey Balenciaga’s presence in the ballroom and fashion sphere, allowing her to mingle with the likes of Beyoncé and Raul Lopez. Yes, the 23-year-old starlet toured with one of the world’s biggest pop stars and appeared on HBO’s second season of Legendary, but don’t get it twisted; she’s just getting started.
Hypebeast met up with the dancing diva during the height of New York Fashion Week, equipping her with Samsung’s Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Z Flip6. “It’s the busiest fashion week I’ve had so far, and I’ve been going to Fashion Week for probably three years now.” Invited to front-row viewings of her favorite designers, including AREA, Paloma and LaQuan Smith, her excitement is palpable despite managing these hectic day-to-night appearances. During the day, Honey tracks her wellness stats as we peek into her demanding yet rewarding schedule.
With the Galaxy Z Flip6’s modernized Galaxy AI enhanced Flex Window and mobile suite of AI tools, Samsung unveils its most innovative foldable yet — a pocket-friendly device for fashion savants and creatives alike. Paired with the Galaxy Ring, Honey taps into a comprehensive overview of her daily health. According to its biodata, Honey’s due for a spa day and some lavish R&R. Between her calories burned, daily steps and sleep patterns, she’s seemingly running 100 mph to keep up with the city’s glamorous functions.
No stranger to the limelight, Honey familiarizes herself with everyone on the floor, including an adorable puppy wandering outside. “I just wanna get to know you,” she coos, heading back to her station for another round of hair and makeup. She elegantly floats around the set, a real-life Bratz doll draped in a bubblegum pink, floor-length gown; a dramatic slit reveals glossy, satin tights underneath. Other ensembles include an aurora-hued crop top paired with baggy cargo pants and a stunning, all-black cut-out top with skin-tight leather leggings. Performing 360 spins that fluidly transform into drops, the ballroom phenom flashes her chrome stiletto nails and silver Galaxy Ring at the camera. At 110 bpm, she’s audibly attempting to catch her breath after duckwalking and acrobatically slicing her heels through the air.
“This year, I’ve solidified my team. They’ve been getting me to shows on time this week, getting me together, waking me up, holding my bag, all my trinkets and touch-ups, and just making sure I’m seated in my seat. And that my seat is the right seat. Having that backbone is something special.”
Armed with the right people in her realm, Honey is allowing herself to expand her talents outside of ballroom while reconnecting with her original passions in music, theater and design. “My stress and energy levels were green today,” she laughs, “so I’m good.”
Of course, a hard day’s work can feel like a kiki when you love what you do and the people you’re doing it with.
