The Malbon Championship Vest that Jason Day was asked to remove during the first round of the 2024 Masters Tournament has sold for $18K USD. The game worn garment was auctioned off at the Brighter Days Invitational with the money going to Brighter Days Foundation, a tournament and charity that Day started with his wife Ellie to support Central Ohio nonprofits.

The 36-year-old Day, a former world number 1 player and major championship winner whose career had lost some of its momentum, garnered plenty of attention throughout the year thanks to his partnership with up-and-comers Malbon Golf. The Australian made the surprising decision back in January to leave Nike for a brand not traditionally associated with elite level athletes. Then, as the season progressed, founders Stephens and Erica along with creative producer Luke Garner scripted Day in parachute nylon pants, slouchy cardigans and, indeed, graphic sweater vests which in some cases provoked the ire of traditionalists. It was a symbiotic relationship as Malbon benefited from the exposure and Day developed a newfound edginess with the alternative golf crowd.

But no moment did more for Malbon than the Masters. Playing with Tiger Woods no less, Day wore the sweater vest with prominent branding on Friday morning for the resumption of the first round. Within hours the vest was nowhere to be seen, and uncertainty remained over what exactly had happened until Day admitted to a reporter that he was “respectfully” asked to remove it. As GolfMagic reported, the purchase of the vest also comes with a round of golf alongside Day.
