Foot Locker Celebrates 50 Years of Supporting Sneaker Culture
Releasing an exclusive footwear collection inspired by its golden anniversary.
Sneaker retailer Foot Locker is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month. Having spent its years delivering the latest footwear models to communities across the globe, it marks the milestone with the launch of an exclusive collection comprising an array of sneakers made popular over the past five decades.
A curated selection of six models from Nike, adidas, Puma, and New Balance provides the canvas for the retailer’s anniversary makeover. Drawing inspiration from its long-standing striped uniform, these models adopt a striking black-and-white color palette, finished with golden motifs and intersecting panels. On the featuring Nike Air Force 1 and Nike TN, this colorway appears in a gradient application while the adidas Samba, New Balance 550, and other silhouettes take on a block-toned interpretation.
Continuing to commemorate its 50-year legacy in sneaker retail, Foot Locker will host a line-up of events at its flagship stores on September 19. As part of the latest release, these events will be programmed in partnership with the four featuring brands where they will each spotlight one cultural scene through local music, street food, and drinks. It has been announced that the UK edition is led by adidas with live sets from Cultur FM. Other events are set to take place in Berlin, Paris, Milan, and Barcelona, all on the same date this month.
With the anniversary serving as a cause for celebration as well as reflection, the retailer’s president and CEO Mary Dillon says, “As we commemorate this milestone, we’re focused on the future and celebrating our position as the ‘Heart of Sneakers’. Our deep-rooted connection to sneaker culture and the dedication of our Stripers have fueled our success, and we’re gearing up for the next 50 years.”
