Cecilie Bahnsen Moves Mountains and Takes Us to Tokyo for SS25

Cecilie Bahnsen has built a thriving exploratory ecosystem for Spring/Summer 2025. In the Danish designer’s Paris Fashion Week showcase – a Gesamtkunstwerk, or “total work of art” – the florals are flourishing, the greenery is growing and the clothing is as Cecilie-core as ever. Backed by live music from Japanese artist Takashi Homma, Bahnsen’s “The Crux” takes us out of the Parisian chaos (or, in the show attendees’ cases, an abandoned Parisian flat) and transports us into the calming mountain ranges of Tokyo.

“Takashi Homma and I once discussed shooting in the mountains outside Tokyo – a journey we have yet to take. This collection, however, is a tribute to those mountains, their beauty and the inspiration they hold, as well as Takashi’s unique artistic vision,” Bahnsen wrote in the collection notes.

“Last year, I had the chance to experience Takashi’s live music performance during his solo photo exhibition ‘Revolution 9’ at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum … This inspired the concept of a fashion show installation, featuring live performance and projections of his photography. His music, alongside his mountain imagery, intertwined with the feeling of an abandoned Paris flat, will set the tone for the entire experience.”

Models – including professional rock climbers Brooke Raboutou, Molly Thompson-Smith and Solenne Piret among a lineup of additional athletes, dancers and artists – strutted the looks down the runway as Homma’s blue-hued mountain photography hung on the empty walls throughout.

Envisioned through the lens of Bahnsen’s “skeleton flower” – a bloom that becomes transparent in the rain – the collection’s 33 looks spotlight overlooked internal beauty, a symbolic extapolation of nature’s hidden inner workings. With craftsmanship on full display as well, airy nylon outerwear and jacketing are paired with signature structured skirting.

“The Crux” features collaborations with The North Face and Asics as well. In true “Never Stop Exploring” fashion, the North Face collaboration leans into the outside outfitter’s interplay of fabrics and techniques, consisting of an array of technical pieces twisted with Bahsen’s feminine aura in mind. Recycled polyester ripstop is used on lightweight windbreakers, which come layered atop floral shorts finished off with drawstring detailing.

Reminders of Copenhagen are still implemented throughout the presentation, with dark sequin accents and romantic flowy skirting standing out within the range.
