Balenciaga SS25 Takes Paris to Demna's Dining Room
“My early memories of fashion start with me drawing looks on cardboard, cutting them out and making ‘fashion shows’ on my kitchen table,” the designer explained.
Balenciaga took Paris Fashion Week’s showgoers to a banquet for its Summer 2025 show—a star-stacked spectacle attended by the likes of Nicole Kidman, Future, Katy Perry and Lindsay Lohan that was quite full circle for designer Demna.
“My early memories of fashion start with me drawing looks on cardboard, cutting them out and making ‘fashion shows’ on my kitchen table,” he explained. “Thirty five years later, this show reconnects me to the beginning of my vision. It’s a tribute to fashion that has a point of view.”
On the longest dining table we’ve ever seen, front-row guests received a full course of Balenciaga’s finest. Here, Demna’s manifesto was ultra-subversive: glittering lingerie appeared under fur coats, while archetypal “Fashion Designer” puffers layered over low-rise trousers, and denim pants were repurposed as jacket lapels. iPhones dangled from models’ wrists with the brand’s iconography gleaming from their screens, while chargers were tucked neatly on the exteriors of bags, and hats were turned down for anonymity.
A triangular black satin gown—a tried-and-true Demna signature—closed the show, before Britney Spears’ “Gimme More” abruptly halted and guests were on their way. Demna’s not here to waste your time; he’s here to try twisting fashion’s clock forward to the future.
