Steve McQueen’s Iconic ‘Le Mans’ Heuer Monaco Watch to Feature in Sotheby's Important Watches Auction
Going on sale alongside a curated collection of vintage chronographs from the watchmaker
Sotheby’s will be spotlighting a curated assortment of historical Heuer timepieces as part of the Heuer Champions lineup at its upcoming New York Important Watches Auction. Among the lot, is the iconic Heuer Monaco worn by legendary racer, Steve McQueen during the filming for the 1971 film, Le Mans.

Outfitted in Monaco’s emblematic square-shaped case, the Heuer ref. 1133B spotlights a gray-blue dial that creates a striking contrast with its white sub-counters and minute track. Its racing connection is fortified with bold red accents that embellish the hands and hour markers.
The Heuer Champions lot also includes a selection of vintage chronographs that nod to the watchmaker’s motorsport history. These along with the Heuer Monaco as seen on Steve McQueen’s wrist be put up for sale at Sotheby’s New York Important Watches Auction in December.
From August 14- 17, the timepiece will be exhibited at RM Sotheby’s flagship Monterey auction in California. It will return to New York for exhibition between December 5 – 10 before going under the hammer to the Important Watches Auction on December 11.
