De Bethune Expands on the DB28xs Model With Two New Releases
Introducing the Steel Wheels and Aérolite in smaller dimensions.
Earlier this year, De Bethune presented the stunning Purple Rain DB28xs, the second xs model to be introduced in the DB28 range. This week, at Geneva Watch Days, the independent watchmaker presented two extraordinary DB28xs references, demonstrating its continual desire to expand on this model. The new unveiling comprises the Steel Wheels and the Aérolite, both serving as the latest examples of De Bethune’s ongoing quest in innovative watchmaking.
De Bethune DB28xs Steel Wheels
This timepiece comes as a reimagining of the DB28 Steel Wheels that was first released in 2018, which is now translated into smaller dimensions. Measuring 39mm in case diameter, a staggering 4mm difference from the original, the DB28xs Steel Wheels made no compromises on both its architectural and technical specifications.
The watch’s “simple miniaturization” isn’t the discussed feature that’s worth discussing. On a technical note, the reference is fitted with the DB2115V13 caliber, which boasts an impressive 6-day power reserve — a 20% improvement from its last iteration. Encased in Grade 5 titanium, the DB28xs Steel Wheels retails at $90,000 USD and comes with a navy blue leather strap.
De Bethune DB28xs Aérolite
According to Denis Flageollet, De Bethune’s master watchmaker, “No other metal is as infused with pure energy and emotion as iron meteorites, which have taken form in the furnace of stars.” An amalgamation of art and science, the DB28xs Aérolite draws its design cues from the DB28xs Starry Seas and DB28XP Météorite models, creating something new in a contemporary 39mm case size.
Housed in black zirconium, the watch face captures the mood and visual of what seems like the birth of a galaxy. Its blue meteorite dial shimmers tantalizing in resplendent iridescence, with random guilloché and white gold “stars” painting a starry scenery that’s enriched with mysticism.
Also geared with 6 days of power reserve, the DB28xs Aérolite runs on a miniaturized DB2005 caliber. It’s released as an annual limited edition and features a price tag of $120,000 USD.
