The Cabot Collection, a lineup of high end golf courses and destinations, may have started in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, but the developers have since expanded their reach to Florida, the Highlands of Scotland and even the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia. While some, like Cabot Saint Lucia which was forged from volcanic rock, are brand new, others like Cabot Citrus Farms near Orlando are pre-existing resorts that were renovated and rebranded. Cabot’s newest property falls into the latter category, and sees it expanding into continental Europe for the first time.

Formerly known as Golf du Medoc Resort, Cabot Bordeaux is located in the heart of French wine country and includes two 18 courses, one designed by Bill Coore and the other by Rod Whitman. But while past Cabot acquisitions have included extensive renovations like at Citrus Farms where a number of trees were removed and bunkers were added, Bordeaux is more or less turnkey. That’s a testament to Cabot founder Ben Cowan-Dewar’s respect for Coore and Whitman’s designs. Set on 400 acres of pristine French countryside, the 36 holes are characterized by low evergreens, native grasses and natural ponds. Once it reopens visitors will return again not just for the golf, but for the nearby medieval village of Saint-Émilion and the region’s world-renowned wineries.

Some may just come for the hospitality which includes a 79-room hotel, restaurant and spa, and the interior will be updated by UK-based design firm Russell Sage Studio in a manner that brings it into the modern day while maintaining its historic charm. “We are excited to collaborate with local artisans to infuse the project with a distinct sense of place,” said the studio’s founder Russell Sage. “The property will seamlessly blend modern and classic design elements, offering guests a home away from home enriched with unforgettable golf, dining and opportunities for relaxation.”
