Barbour’s FW24 Heritage+ Collection Offers A Directional Take On Archival Classics
To celebrate the launch, Hypebeast will join the brand to host a special launch party next week at its Neal Street Heritage store in London.
British lifestyle brand Barbour has just launched the Fall/Winter 2024 installment of its Heritage+ line, as it continues to weave a contemporary thread through its most famous archival silhouettes, fabrics, and construction methods.
A modern expression of its 130-year legacy, the brand’s Heritage+ offering launched earlier this year with a staple range of Spring/Summer 2024 garments. Speaking on the formation of the respective line, menswear director Ian Bergin says, “Heritage+ is Barbour in its most authentic form. It has all the traditional construction methods you’d expect from us, with tartan liners and brass hardware, but with a more directional attitude. We’ve carefully taken archive pieces and reissued them – altering the fit to suit today’s customer.”
Drawing on the brand’s extensive archive housed in their South Shields factory, where the brand was born, this season’s collection is compiled with a refined lineup of practical clothing designed to be passed down through generations. Hero pieces, including the Heritage Dry Fly Waterproof, outline its approach this season by showcasing a contemporary remix of heirloom styles with a new structural shape, technical materials, and additional components.
As well as reinterpreting heritage classics like the Spey waterproof coat and equestrian-inspired Bedale wax jacket, Barbour also introduces brand-new models that draw on the popularity of modern trends. The Field Vertical Quilted jacket, for example, plays on the widely loved quilted liners, incorporating striped seams seen on military coats for an alternative look.
To round off the collection, the brand also delivers several mid-layer tops including the Gansey crew neck sweater as well as boxy fit T-shirts featuring graphic designs from ‘90s catalogs. Adopting the same earthy color palette present in its outerwear, these pieces can be mixed and matched to suit the weather or outdoor expedition.
In celebration of the launch, Barbour will be hosting a special event at its newly opened Neal Street store in London next week. Against the backdrop of the Fall/Winter 2024 collection, Bergin will sit down with Hypebeast as well as stylist and tastemaker Leon Cerrone for an intimate conversation exploring the brand’s 130th anniversary, the importance of innovation as well as exploring his favorite designs from the new collection such as the Barbour Bedale wax trench coat.
