Is Pharrell’s ‘Despicable Me 4’ Soundtrack Cut “Double Life” Also Doubling as a Drake Diss?
Fans suggest that Skateboard P isn’t just talking about Gru.
About a decade after dropping his biggest hit “Happy,” Pharrell Williams returns to the Despicable Me universe with “Double Life,” which is set to appear on the soundtrack of the upcoming Despicable Me 4 installment. However, fans are suggesting that the artist could be talking about more than just Gru’s story.
Clocking in at just a little over three minutes, the self-produced cut hears Skateboard P reignite the upbeat sound fans heard on “Happy” while singing about the literal double life that Gru, the franchise’s lead character, leads. On the other hand, the internet is convinced that the lyrics of “Double Life” is actually aimed at Drake and serves as Pharrell’s version of a diss track after he was name dropped in the former’s “Family Matters.” Just like Gru, Pharrell hints that Drizzy has a whole other side to him that many don’t know about, ending the song with ominous lyrics about choosing a side.
