'Bad Boys: Ride or Die' Delivers $104.6 Million USD Global Opening Weekend Box Office Debut
Proving that there is still a market for Will Smith in his fourth entry in the buddy cop series with Martin Lawrence.
Looks like the Will Smith and Martin Lawrence buddy-cop formula is back in action. Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the fourth installment in the Smith and Lawrence-led series. Opening this weekend, the film kicked off with a strong debut of $56 million USD domestically from 3,885 theaters. Globally, it has garnered $48.6 million USD, bringing the final tally across the globe to $104.6 million USD.
A strong start to the film’s debut, the film’s early success is proof that there is still a market for Smith and his action films. The first Bad Boys film arrived in 1995, with the second arriving in 2003 and that third in 2020. This is the first major film Smith has appeared in since he assaulted Chris Rock on stage at the 2022 Oscars. While many have said his actions were uncalled for, audiences still seem to be intrigued by Smith’s projects.
Although the fourth film does not cement itself in any kind of franchise record at the moment, it does give summer blockbusters an encouragement for the season. The movie landed an A- on CinemaScore but just a 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. It cost $100 million USD to make, and so far, it seems like the film is well-positioned for a great theatrical run. Bad Boys: Ride or Die is now available in theaters.
