Wrist Check: Met Gala 2024

The Met Gala is the annual mecca of fashion that brings some of the world’s biggest stars to New York City. Part of the fun of dressing up, is the abundance of accessories that are paired with the the extravagant gowns and suits. Similar to past years, Met Gala 2024 saw memorable time pieces from some of the world’s biggest brands.

Leading the pack, Jeremy Strong wears the highly coveted Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari Ultra-Thin. The watch is the second thinnest in the world and is unmistakable as one of the most recognizable watches in the world. The statement-making watch comes in at just 1.75 mm thick, but still captures the attention of onlookers worldwide. Ben Simmons wore Patek Philippe Aquanaut Ref. 7968/300R featuring a gem-set rainbow bezel alongside a Mad Hatter-inspired big clock briefcase with his Thom Browne ensemble. Serena Williams stayed true to her all-gold outfit, wearing an Audemars Piguet Sandgold Royal Oak Flying Tourbillon Openworked Ref. 26735SG.OO.1320SG.01 to match. Michelle Yeoh, who stays true to her love of Richard Mille, wore the RM 07-01 with an iced-out bezel and green strap to match her silver dress and accessories. Jeff Goldblum stood out from the pack with a Tiffany Cocktail 2-Hand while co-chair Chris Hemsworth sported the Chopard Alpine Eagle.

Cartier was a popular choice amongst the attendees. Omar Apollo and Sebastian Stan wore different renditions of the highly-valued Cartier Crash while Donald Glover sported the Vintage Cartier Roadster, Steven Yuen in the Clash de Cartier, Dwyane Wade in the Cartier Santos and Jon Batiste accessorized with the Cartier Privé Tank Normale. The choice of classic Cartier watches speaks to the ongoing trend of wearing timeless icons to formal events, sweeping the industry season by season. Jacob & Co. was a popular choice for those looking to be extra flashy and make a major statement. Usher struck a bold red with the Jacob & Co. Ruby Billionaire while Rauw Alejandro was extra cold with the icy Jacob & Co. Ashoka Boutique Watch. Taika Waititi also wore the blinged-out Jacob & Co. Royal Tourbillon Baguette.

Other notable watch moments see Lil Nas X go with a vintage Piaget ANALOG:SHIFT and Brooklyn Peltz Beckham with a Piaget Polo 79. Morgan Spector and Colman Domingo chose the IWC Portugieser Automatic 42 and Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44 respectively, while Barry Keoghan stole the show and wore three Omega timepieces for the event. Amongst his trifecta of Omega watches are the Omega de Ville Prestige and the most special of them all is the very rare and fine, two-tone dial 1930s Omega Staybrite pocket watch.
