Vince Staples Announces His Final Def Jam Album, 'Dark Times'
Also releasing the single “Shame On The Devil.”
Vince Staples officially announced his eight studio album, Dark Times.
Set to release on Friday, May 24, the Long Beach artist confirmed on social media that this will mark his final release with Def Jam. “Eleven years ago, a young, uncertain version of myself was given an opportunity with Def Jam Recordings. I released my first project under their banner, Shyne Coldchain Vol 2, a year later,” Staples wrote on Instagram, where he also unveiled the official album art and the 12-song tracklist. “I was unsure of what to expect from the world of music, but deeply aware of what I needed: a change in my surroundings and a clear understanding of self. Ten years and seven projects later, I’ve found that clarity. Now, I share with you my final Def Jam release, Dark Times. 5.24.24.”
Joining the album’s announcement is the release of its lead single “Shame on the Devil.” Clocking in at approximately three-and-a-half minutes, the track features production from Joe Harrison, Michael Uzowuru, Mino, Tyler Page and Staples himself, and hears the artist riding a mellow beat built with drums and warm guitars.
