Timothée Chalamet Stars in Martin Scorsese-Directed Bleu de Chanel Campaign
The long-awaited ad campaign has finally released, marking the duo’s first time working together.
At long last, Chanel‘s short film campaign for perfume, Bleu de Chanel, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Timothée Chalamet has finally arrived. The project was the first time the two have worked together and after film the commercial last spring in New York City, fans can finally see what they have been working on.
In a November 2023 cover story with GQ, Chalamet said of Scorsese, “We were in Queens at four in the morning and he was bounding up the subway stairs. It should’ve to me sooner that I try to find something to work on with him. Yes, it’s a perfume ad, but for me it was an opportunity for an enormous education.” Scorsese first shot a Bleu de Chanel film in 2010 and now returns to the brand, working for the first time with Chalamet on a new ad as the young actor was recently announced as the new face of Bleu de Chanel.
Written specifically for Chalamet, the short film’s logline reads, “An actor’s conflict between celebrity and staying true to himself. A dialogue between Timothée Chalamet’s artistic sensibility and Martin Scorsese’s virtuosity.” In another interview with GQ Chalamet shared that the ad itself is “not evocative of other commercials […] in a good way.” He added that he did not want audiences to “feel like it’s a prodcut.” Taking storytelling to another level, Chalamet also noted in another Vogue interview about his collaboration with Scorsese, “I have some friends that aren’t as interested in the high-fashion space, but when I tell them I’m doing a short film with Martin Scorsese in New York, their ears prick up. He lives and breathes moviemaking. The conversations we’ve had over Zoom have been super enthused. For him, it’s like hitting the treadmill.”
