CASIO marked its golden anniversary in the wristwatch industry with a commemorative exhibition titled “Down to Business: 50 Years of Watch Innovation.” The opening night, held on March 27 at Hypebeast’s 41 Division in New York City served as a retrospective on CASIO’s rich history of technological advancements and design contributions that have left an indelible mark on global watch culture.

A central highlight was the re-release of the groundbreaking Casiotron watch, renowned as the world’s first digital watch with an automatic calendar function. This limited-edition reissue pays homage to the original’s aesthetic and functionality while incorporating modern features for a new generation of watch enthusiasts.

The exhibition itself, which ran from March 28 to 29, offered an immersive journey through CASIO’s five decades of innovation. Curated by decade, the showcase featured iconic timepieces that have become synonymous with the brand, including the pioneering Casiotron, the durable G-SHOCK, and the technologically forward models like the 1983 CASIO CFX-200 Scientific Calculator watch, the 1985 PELA FS-10, and the 2001 WQV-10 Wrist Camera. Guests were invited to closely examine these historical pieces, gaining a firsthand appreciation for their enduring design and technical significance.

Further enriching the experience was a teaser drop for a Hypebeast Behind The Hype series, which delves into the stories behind CASIO’s most coveted designs. A unique “gotcha gotcha” vending machine dispensed commemorative souvenirs, solidifying the event’s place as a celebration of CASIO’s lasting legacy.

The exhibition’s design mirrored CASIO’s ethos of practicality and functionality. Hypebeast’s 41 Division was transformed into a retro office environment, complete with vintage technology, classic office décor, and throwback CASIO advertisements. This immersive setting offered a nostalgic yet insightful look into CASIO’s profound impact on watchmaking and popular culture over the past half-century. The “Down to Business” exhibition served not only as a tribute to CASIO’s enduring commitment to innovation but also as a testament to the brand’s enduring influence that continues to shape the future of timekeeping.
