Denim Tears Unveils SS24 "Kiss My Grits" Collection
Including a COMME des GARÇONS collaboration.

This past week, Tremaine Emory‘s Denim Tears has released its Spring/Summer 2024 collection titled, “Kiss My Grits.”
Since its conception in 2019, the label has continued to highlight the Black diaspora over the years. Led by Emory who is passionate about sharing Black experiences, each new collection of Denim Tears ventures into often unchartered territory of storytelling. Rich in historical meaning, he is able to combine a youthful lens to his collection, all while dictating a narrative different from the rest. Denim Tears took to social media to unveil the latest collection, which features a variety of wardrobe staples in the form of graphic t-shirts, button-ups trousers and more.
Perhaps one of the most highlighted motifs is the watermelon — a graphic used throughout the collection on its tops and accessories. The aforementioned fruit appears on the polo shirt, hand painted plaid trucker jacket, knitted green and white beanie and the leather jacket. The motif seems to be a nod to the symbolic meaning of the fruit — the watermelon often symbolized Black self-sufficiency but in the Jim Crow era it was subverted. The collection also features a COMME des GARÇONS collaboration in the form of the leather watermelon print leather zip pouch.
Take a look above at the collection and stay tuned for the release date.
