A Day in the Life of PUMA Mostro’s Extravagant Revival
Here’s what went down at NYFW.
Following its highly anticipated re-release after 25 years, PUMA continues to spotlight the archival Mostro sneaker. Having focused its New York Fashion Week presentation around the silhouette, the carnival-inspired “Welcome To The Amazing Mostro Show” spectacle showcased an array of unique colorways on the runway.
London-based designer Jawara Alleyne takes Hypebeast behind the scenes of the lead-up to the show. First opting for the sleek black and white colorway of the Mostro, he styles the sneaker with some of his own brand’s garments — inspired by his Jamaican, Cayman, and British heritage — adorned in tie-dye and safety pin embellishments.
After an intimate lunch with the PUMA team, a quick outfit change to an all-black biker-inspired fit leans into the silhouette’s “monster” energy. Set inside the historical Park Avenue Armory, the German sportswear label transformed the theater into a larger-than-life amusement park — equipped with a Ferris wheel, flying swings, and rollercoasters.
As mannequins swung above in bold iterations of the silhouette, the models walked the runway in a range of head-turning looks from FW24 complementing the sneaker including velour tracksuits, BMW collaborative pieces, and even crystal-emblazoned helmets. This season sees the brand explore out-of-this-world designs as the runway tapped into the futurism of the Mostro aesthetic, and Alleyne highlights the outwear and leather pieces being the “chef’s kiss” of the new collection.
The extravagant show was rounded off with an after-party hosted by PUMA’s creative director of its F1 partnership A$AP Rocky and friends, attended by a number of familiar faces to celebrate the Mostro’s return
