PlayStation is angling to make playing its games more immersive – starting with the audio. The company has engineered the PULSE Elite wireless headset, a device built for “next-generation” gaming audio.

Differentiating the PULSE Elite from other headsets on the market, PlayStation used planar magnetic drivers that replicate the same pieces used in professional recording studios. Magnetic drivers in headphones aren’t a novel concept but PlayStation says that in combination with the headset’s 3D audio configuration – with sounds coming from all directions – the audio is as close to what developers intended as possible.

For those who partake in multiplayer games, the PULSE Elite has an integrated flexible boom mic that can be retracted into the headset when not in use. It also offers AI-powered noise cancellation to better hear the game and what others are saying over their own mics.

Naturally, the headset has Bluetooth compatibility, as well as dual connectivity, meaning a user can connect to the console and a secondary speaker to answer phone calls or hear other notifications even while playing. As for battery life, the PULSE Elite has 30 hours on a full charge and gets 2 hours of charge in just ten minutes when connected to its charging hanger.

PlayStation’s PULSE Elite wireless headset launches on February 21. The headset is available for pre-order for $149 USD.
