Penfolds Taps NIGO to Revamp Grange Packaging for First-Ever Design Takeover
An icon reimagined by tastemaker and Human Made Creative Director, NIGO.




Penfolds and NIGO have unveiled a new limited-edition collaboration for Penfolds flagship wine, Grange. The Grange by NIGO release celebrates the first-ever design takeover of Grange through NIGO’s visionary lens, marking a special milestone for Penfolds in its 180th year.
This one-off release includes collectible 750mL and 1.5L gift boxes, which house the current 2019 vintage of Penfolds Grange, made from the highest quality Shiraz grapes from vineyards across South Australia. Each box is individually numbered and includes both a bandana and bottleneck tag designed by NIGO, as well as a certificate of authenticity. The design approach pays tribute to Grange in NIGO’s signature style, featuring a bold and colorful grape graphic and Penfolds logo reimagined through Human Made’s iconic typography.
This year, Penfolds celebrates 180 years of trailblazing in wine expertise and innovation. Fusing both art and science, Penfolds is one of the world’s most celebrated and collected winemakers, creating powerful flavor profiles and traditions that have carried on for generations. Its flagship wine, Grange, has an unbroken line of vintages since 1951 and continues to be one of the world’s most collected wines.
Much like Penfolds has existed at the forefront of the wine industry, cementing its status with its signature ‘House Style,’ NIGO occupies the forefront of culture. Taking this exclusive collaboration one step further, he also designed silk rugs featuring a dyed purple grape design to reflect the limited-edition wine packaging. Each rug is handwoven over the course of two months by artisans in Nepal. These rugs are available globally via expressions of interest at SPACE Furniture and www.penfolds.com within Australia.
NIGO first visited the Penfolds Magill Estate Winery in South Australia in 2022 and later spent time with the brand reviewing its archives. Heavily inspired by the dedicated craftsmanship that fuels Penfolds, it was a no-brainer for NIGO to take on this collaboration. “I have been a collector of Grange for many years, but it wasn’t until I visited Penfolds Magill Estate that I truly understood the history behind the wine. It was an honor to be the first person to collaborate on a design for Grange, especially as the brand celebrates its 180th anniversary,” he shared.
Penfolds Grange by NIGO will be available globally on February 22, 2024.
