Last night tucked away in a Brooklyn warehouse, Raul Lopez held the Fall/Winter 2024 runway show for his eponymous label LUAR. In his own right, the designer has already been one of the most sought-after names on the New York Fashion Week calendar due to his contemporarily sexy, striking and culture-savvy designs. But after last night, Lopez might’ve just won this year due to a special front-row appearance by Beyoncé.

Quite honestly the event was a Knowles family affair with Tina and Solange Knowles on the front row as well. But it made sense given that Solange’s son, Julez Smith Jr. walked the show as his runway debut. Aside from the Knowles family, JT of the City Girls, Christopher John Rogers and Alton Mason also sat in the front row. So all eyes were on Lopez’s latest creative exhibition.

Entitled “Deceptionista,” LUAR’s latest was a commentary on the return of metrosexuality. “Lopez reminds us that fluidity is embedded with nuance – much of it leaning on a sense of duplicity,” said the brand. “For Lopez, metrosexuality is not just a label or a look – it was a trapdoor to acceptance, a way for him to hide his sexuality growing up. Assuming the role of a “Deceptionista,” he was able to deceive, shade and ultimately transcend.”

Bridging old and new, what came down the runway was a fusion of old and new. We saw LUAR brand signatures like oversized boulder shoulders across tailored pieces, outerwear and dresses alongside warped design details. Examples include a dusty maroon-covered suit that was met with a deep toffee-hued balaclava overlay and a pair of light-wash printed denim merged with a ribbed white knit top.

One of the collection’s standout looks, which was worn by Julez Smith Jr, saw an oversized, yet structured leather suit in deep navy with fur arm detailing paired with an ivory-colored silk button-down and tie. It was the perfect example of the LUAR world, tailored, contemporary and irrefutably glamorous – highlighting the dance between masculinity and femininity. The collection also marked the introduction of LUAR BASICS – rounding out the scope of Lopez’s offerings.
