Jonathan Anderson is a master of visual manipulation with an unmatched eye for detail. The JW Anderson founder and LOEWE Creative Director is constantly experimenting with the here and now, creating whimsical collections that garner a second look…or ten. The Irish designer opened the third day of London Fashion Week by welcoming us into the capital’s Seymour Leisure Centre — a state-of-the-art swimming and climbing facility where he came to play.

Invisible echos of basketball-playing athletes sounded throughout the venue, overwhelming every corner with floor squeaking movement. JW Anderson, perhaps the more relaxed version of LOEWE, began the occasion with a plethora of awe-inspiring looks, gathering gymnasts, elders, and rebels for a good time. Models walked the runway in curly grey bobs and slicked-back pixies, wearing revamped athletic uniforms, breaded yarn costumes, and more. Thin undergarments were tonally layered to trick the eye with petite bows, while fuzzy dresses were pulled at the waist in unnatural shapes. Velour tanks and shorts arrived ready for action, followed by strong-shouldered coats with theatrical backbones. Floral arrangements dragged on the floor in celebration of the brand’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection, seeing knotted knitwear, belted tops and structural motorcycle jackets complete the collection with a sense of rebellion.
