A home designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for artist Oscar Miestchaninoff has gone on the market.

Listed by French real estate agency Architecture de Collection, the home studio was constructed in 1925 and is located in Boulogne-Billancourt—a small hamlet in the suburbs of Paris. Its blocky form adheres to the International Style of architecture, which began in Western Europe in the 1920s. This style was characterized by its functional and utilitarian design and minimalism, with glass, steel, and reinforced concrete being the materials of choice.

The yellow-colored building is part of a complex designed for Miestchaninoff and fellow artist Jacques Lipchitz. They had commissioned Le Corbusier after meeting at an art auction in 1921. It spans three levels and features a huge reception space with double-height ceilings, a kitchen, bedroom, terrace, suite, and office.

The real gem, though, is the outbuilding, which is located on the opposite side of the garden and includes an artist’s studio on the ground floor, a living room, a bedroom, a hammam, and a shower room underneath. The current owners designed a collection of custom-made furniture inspired by the property’s form and proportions for this space.

“The commission reflects the aspirations of many artists of the time, who sought to establish their studios in this quiet and upscale neighborhood,” say the realtors. “The original design combines a living space for the sculptor and his family with a dedicated studio area.”

“Le Corbusier placed the studios on the ground floor to facilitate the handling of sculptures,” they continue. “These spaces feature generous volumes with double-height ceilings, thanks to the apartments occupying only part of the upper floors.”

The Miestchaninoff House-Studio is for sale and is listed at €4,950,000 (approximately $5,192,625 USD). See more details on the realtors website.
