Bose Acquires Luxury Hi-Fi Audio Brands McIntosh and Sonus faber
The premium audio giant leans further into the hi-fi niche and the broader luxury audio sector.
On Tuesday Bose announced that it has moved to acquire McIntosh Group, the owner of luxury audio labels McIntosh and Sonus faber. The consumer audio brand’s ownership of two of the most lauded labels in the high-end market expands the already global tech purveyor to unprecedented heights.
Many are familiar with Bose’s reliable headphones and home speakers, but the average person may be less likely to frequent McIntosh Group’s products. In Bose’s words, McIntosh manufactures “the world’s finest” audio devices including amplifiers, loudspeakers, turntables and more. To illustrate the level of luxury the parent company offers: the Italian-made Suprema loudspeakers cost $750,000 USD from Sonus faber and some McIntosh turntables sell for up to $12,000 USD.
The press release emphasizes potential innovations that the company can now offer in the automotive sector. Bose has incorporated its premium audio systems into vehicles from automotive brands across the market including Porsche, Honda, Kia, Fiat and many more. “By leveraging Bose’s 40-plus years of experience in automotive audio, and McIntosh Group’s legacy of performance and design, the brands will work together to expand their research and continue to engineer authentic in-car experiences that redefine automotive sound,” said Bose on the merge.
While continuing to offer consumer devices Bose will also have the opportunity to accelerate future innovations addressing areas of opportunity like noise cancellation, hearing augmentation and immersive audio.
