Baracuta and Barbour’s Latest Collab Traces British Style Through the Decades
The new campaign follows Danny Lomas as he takes the range out and about in Manchester.
A year after Baracuta’s debut collaboration with Barbour, the iconic British labels have teamed up once again to launch their second Fall/Winter collection together.
Landing on Barbour’s milestone 100th anniversary, the new arrival departs from the reimagined Ivy League styles of the previous collection, instead drawing on inspiration closer to home by honing in on their shared Northern English heritage. “Carefully melding together the DNA of both brands was key to this collaboration,” shares a spokesperson from the outdoors label. “We wanted to pay tribute to the Northern roots of Barbour and Baracuta, and the people that have worn our jackets over the years.”
The outcome of this approach sees two archival outerwear classics hero the collection; Baracuta’s G9 Harrington and Barbour’s Bedale jacket. Having been famously adopted by subcultures in the ‘60s to the present day, the latest G9 iteration elevates the jacket’s quintessential detailing with Barbour’s classic waxed material on the outer shell. In another fusion, the riders-favorite Bedale jacket takes on Baracuta’s famous dog-ear collar in a more oversized silhouette.
Continuing to pay homage to the British style history, the collection also features a long-line Parka with a toggle waist and large hood reminiscent of those worn by mods and Brit-pop artists. The outerwear garments come complemented by cable knits and shirts which, like the lining of the jackets, feature a mash-up of the labels’ signature tartan prints. Alongside these, trapper and bucket hats round off the FW24 collection, giving the hardwearing pieces an extra layer of protection against the British weather.
Reflecting on the latest drop, a spokesperson from Baracuta shares, “Manchester and South Shields, the iconic homes of both Baracuta and Barbour, flow through our veins and into our pieces. When you wear a Baracuta x Barbour garment, you’re not just wearing clothes; you’re carrying the message of pure unparalleled Britishness.”
In an expression of “unparalleled Britishness,” the labels unite with menswear tastemaker Danny Lomas for the accompanying campaign. Shot against the red brick backdrop of Manchester’s Ancoats neighborhood, Lomas showcases how he wears the pieces while lending a commentary style narration to the video, seen in the gallery above.
