Willy Chavarria Named 2024 CFDA American Menswear Designer of the Year

Last night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) held its annual Fashion Awards at its usual venue, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, hosted by Cynthia Erivo. Presented by Amazon Fashion, this year’s awards also include the Amazon Innovation Award in addition to many of the usual titles honoring top performers of the American fashion industry.

Taking the American Menswear Designer of the Year award home for the second consecutive year, Willy Chavarria was handed the trophy by singer, Troye Sivan. For 2024, the designer was up against Amiri’s Mike Amiri, Bode’s Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Thom Browne and Todd Snyder.

Last year, Rachel Scott of Diotima was the honoree of the Shop with Google American Emerging Designer of the Year award. This time around, the Diotima designer was bestowed the title of American Womenswear Designer of the Year by  Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Other nominees in the category included  Marc Jacobs, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler, Thom Browne and Tory Burch.

Raul Lopez of Luar won Accessory Designer of the Year against a fierce competition that featured Ana Khouri, Stuart Vevers for Coach, Catherine Holstein for Khaite and Tory Burch. Meanwhile, the Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year title went to Henry Zankov for Zankov, who was nominated alongside Jackson Wiederhoeft for Wiederhoeft, Connor McKnight, Presley Oldham as well as Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kasell for Tanner Fletcher.

Singer-songwriter Erykah Badu was named CFDA’s Fashion Icon for 2024. As for the Media Award in Honor of Eugenia Shepard, photographer Annie Leibovitz was bestowed with the honor by none other than Anna Wintour.
