This week, fashion’s biggest headlines covered designer exits, the Met Gala, starry collaborations, brand sales and expansions.

Among the buzziest, Kim Jones exited Fendi Women’s, with the intention of “concentrat[ing] fully” on his work at Dior Men’s. Elsewhere, The Costume Institute revealed the theme and co-chairs for next year’s Met Gala; Diesel and Fenty teamed up for a lingerie-led collaboration; Jacob Elordi starred in his first Bottega Veneta campaign, and Phoebe Philo announced she’s expanding her namesake label into the Asia-Pacific region.

Below, Hypebeast has rounded up the top fashion stories of the week so you can stay up to date on trends in the industry.

Kim Jones Stepped Down From Fendi

Kim Jones is leaving his post at Fendi, where he has led womenswear and couture design for the previous four years, in an effort to “concentrate fully” on his position as menswear director at Dior, according to Business of Fashion. Fendi stated that it would announce a new creative director “in due time.”

Jones, who debuted at Dior in 2018, took on the Fendi job in 2020, when the Italian fashion house was looking to reinvigorate itself amid the onset of the COVID pandemic and in the aftermath of Karl Lagerfeld’s death the year prior. Notably, Lagerfeld designed for Fendi for over 54 years, and his groundbreaking work for the brand proved to be a tough act to follow.

Many consider Jones’ output at Dior Men’s to be stronger than his work for Fendi Women’s, an unsurprising sway when you account for Jones’ experience being predominantly in menswear. He designed for labels including Louis Vuitton and Dunhill prior to his tenure at Dior, so taking on women’s at Fendi was a new experience. Still, he managed to lift the brand with heritage-inspired codes, bold graphic plays, innovative textile experimentations and artistic collaborations.

The 2025 Met Gala Theme and Co-Chairs Were Revealed

The Costume Institute on Wednesday revealed the official theme and co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala.

The exhibition, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will serve as the theme for the next edition of Fashion’s Biggest Night, which will be led by co-chairs Colman DomingoLewis HamiltonA$AP RockyPharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, as well as honorary co-chair Lebron James.

The exhibition, which will take inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 text Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, will ““explore the indelible style of Black men in the context of dandyism,” per Vogue.

Superfine: Tailoring Black Style will be on view from May 6 through October 26 next year.

Diesel and Fenty Joined Forces for a Lingerie-Led Collection

Glenn Martens’ Diesel and Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty pulled back the curtain on their first-ever collaboration this week, and it’s filled with red, lacy lingerie.

The collection fuses “Fenty’s unapologetic, body and sex-positive ethos with Diesel’s iconic visual vocabulary,” per an official statement. In practice, the duo crafted bodysuits, stockings, corset slips, faux-fade longsleeves and distorted denim boxers — all of which Rihanna herself models in the line’s campaign.

The full Diesel x Fenty collection is now available to shop on the Savage X Fenty webstore.

Jacob Elordi Starred in His First Bottega Veneta Campaign

After becoming an official brand ambassador this spring, Jacob Elordi has returned to star in his first Bottega Veneta campaign, titled “Going Places.”

Lensed by Magnum photographer Alec Soth in Utah and Nevada, the sartorial delivery sees the Australian actor showing off the label’s key ready-to-wear and accessories, including a new edition of the Andiamo bag, amid the locations’ scenic landscapes.

“Bottega Veneta is in essence pragmatic because it is a leather goods company,” said creative director Matthieu Blazy explained of the campaign. “Because it specializes in bags, it is about movement, going somewhere; there is fundamentally an idea of craft in motion.”

Mytheresa Will Acquire Yoox Net-a-Porter From Richemont

Mytheresa is set to acquire Yoox Net-a-Porter (YNAP) from Swiss conglomerate Richemont.

In the deal, Mytheresa will take over YNAP with a €555 million EUR ($609 million USD) cash and zero debt. Additionally, Mytheresa will receive a €100 million EUR ($109 million USD) credit from Richemont, which will claim a 33% stake in Mytheresa.

Mytheresa aims to create “one group with three distinct storefronts” by separating Net-a-Porter and Yoox. Mytheresa CEO Michael Kliger stated that the trio will “offer differentiated but complementary multi-brand luxury edits based on curation, inspiration and outmost customer service… while maintaining their different brand identities.”

The deal is currently expected to close in the first half of 2025.

Phoebe Philo Is Expanding Into the Asia-Pacific Region

According to a report from WWD, Philo will begin shipping to Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and South Korea starting in November. The designer plans on opening an online shopping destination in the region, while also partnering with brick-and-mortar retail outposts.

Philo’s ready-to-wear and accessories will be sold at Dover Street Market Ginza and Isetan Shinjuky in Tokyo, Japan, Parlour X in Sydney and Shinsegae International in Seoul. Notably, the brand is expected to offer a broader range of products online, once its second collection arrives in early 2025.
