Maxfli and Metalwood Studio Nod to Golf’s Golden Era With Nostalgia-Themed Capsule
The apparel collection pays homage to legendary equipment and Maxfli’s Tour-approved golf balls.
With over 100 years in the golf industry, Maxfli’s legacy in the golf circuit is one of innovation, performance and traditional craftsmanship. In a new collaborative capsule, the OG golf purveyor pays homage to its centuries-old brand heritage through the lens of Metalwood Studio’s new wave designs. Referencing legendary equipment, vintage logos and iconic advertisements, the collection revisits Maxfli’s rich history while offering unique apparel pieces for today’s cadre of fashion-forward players.
Maxfli has delivered players of all levels durability, consistency and optimal performance from any lie through a classic design DNA and longstanding commitment to high-quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. Under the helm of DICK’S Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, Maxfli’s staying power and reputation in the golf realm begets a co-sign from Cole Young’s Metalwood, one of the lifestyle brands leading golf’s fashion renaissance.
Young was most likely tuning in to see an unlikely fashion icon, Fred Couples, win the 1992 Masters Tournaments and sourcing bargain-bin clubs and old-school gear for his personal archive before fine-tuning his brand’s amalgam of old and new. Founded in 2020, Metalwood’s hazy graphical motifs, retro patterns and slouchy, Caddyshack-inspired silhouettes slyly wink to this bygone golden era.
As a lifestyle brand embracing the blend of sport and streetwear shaping golf’s new style movement, Metalwood mirrors Maxfli’s balance of tradition and modernity with a range of high-quality, cut-and-sewn garments. The collection features a checkered sporting vest, zip-up hoodies, crewneck sweatshirts, performance polos, T-shirts, and co-branded hats, offering streetwear-inspired pieces designed for both on and off the course.
Nostalgia-tinged elements pay homage to Maxfli’s historic line of Australian Blade Golf Clubs, originally released in 1976. Though the blades are no longer currently in production, they were renowned for a minimalistic, precision-engineered clubhead, providing players advanced feedback and control. The Tour Golf Balls carry this legacy into the future — co-signed by 11-time LPGA Tour winner Lexi Thompson and Top-70 pro golfer Ben Griffin. To increase ball flights and aerodynamics at the swing, they’re meticulously designed with a tetrahedron dimple pattern and a Soft Cast Urethane for optimal greenside spin. A proprietary Center-of-Gravity balancing process mitigates side-spin at take off.
Other motifs, like a geographical outline of Australia, hit the colorblocked polos, available in red and white, while co-branded logos and aged-out graphics adorn the T-shirt panels. As for accessories, headwear options arrive in washed-out gray, green and blue colorways, a subtle pinstripe design stamped with “Maxfli” embroidery and a notable gorpcore-themed pattern nodding to Metalwood’s bestselling camo hat.
Metalwood maintains its penchant for edgy, eye-catching visuals and street-infused silhouettes while highlighting Maxfli’s performance-driven legacy. With this collection, the formula for success on the green remains undefeated: “Hips first, a healthy divot, and a Maxi.” It’s a sure way to hit a Maxfli mile.
