Curated 5: Harry Wakefield of in the corner
The designer and furniture curator spotlights Habitat’s lighting collection.
For the latest installment of “Curated 5” in partnership with Habitat, we enlist London-based designer Harry Wakefield founder of the furniture curation platform in the corner.
Breaking down his favorite pieces from the brand’s lighting collection, Wakefield follows Tola Adefioye and Phoebe Beckett’s episodes spotlighting key pieces from Habitat’s vast homeware offering.
Featuring a mix of table, floor and ceiling lamps, the collection highlights the importance the brand holds to timeless design and sleek aesthetics built to complement any interior. Whether it’s mid-century inspo or elegant statement-making pieces, the lighting range ushers a fresh direction for the British design brand.
Check out Wakefield’s top five pieces from the collection below.
Gloss Glass Table Lamp
Boasting a mid-century modern design language, this table lamp is inspired by Habitat’s rich archives and founder Terence Conran’s early work. With a retro orange color on the outer and an opaque interior, it “gives off a warm light and its small size makes it versatile.”
Salto Raffia 3 Tier Table Lamp
Crafted by hand using raffia paper wrapped around the two-tier shade and base that “creates a cozy, diffused glow.” The unique texture as well as its understated yet bold all-black palette makes this multi-layered lamp a must-have for any home.
Sala Paper 3 Tier Floor Lamp
Another three-tier design, this floor lamp is a contemporary take on classic Japanese rice paper lanterns. Boasting a curved silhouette around a black steel frame, the lamp offers a soft warm glow and gently soothing ambiance perfectly complementing a lounge or bedroom space.
Glass Honeycomb Lampshade
“Affordable and brings a vintage charm,” this Honeycomb Lampshade from Habitat’s AW24 collection is easy to fit and has a shapely, silhouette reminiscent of a bee’s nest. Crafted in rich amber-toned glass for a statement-making piece it’s “ideal for hanging in multiples above a dining table or hallway. Plus, the visible bulb filament is always a nice touch,” says Wakefield.
Dasni Floor Lamp
The second mid-century-inspired piece, the floor lamp from the Dasni collection is constructed with a two-tier shade in olive hues that contrasts with its golden interior adding a modern luxury feel. As well as marbled base and brass fixtures, “it features elegant gooseneck details and gold lining” which Wakefield views as a statement piece to a room.
