Rolf Ekroth Settles By the Fireplace for FW24
The festive range recalls fond childhood memories of watching winter sports with family relatives.
Finnish designer Rolf Ekroth is constantly looking back in time. Whether it be recalling ’90s childhood fun or military camping under the moonlight, Ekroth is a fashion romantic. The designer heads to Copenhagen Fashion Week to resume his customary position while cementing himself as a bright European talent.
While coziness is familiar to Ekroth’s label, the designer embraces the Danish idea of hygge for Fall/Winter 2024. Defined as “a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture),” the collection is drenched in knitted textiles and comforting moods. Ekroth takes a time machine back 40 years, evoking memories of watching winter sports with his grandmother while settling by the fireplace.
He pulls Nordic patterns from his relatives’ dated furniture, channeled into old-school floral co-ords with knotted head scarves. Elsewhere, festive textiles merge across threaded onesies and chirping bird tops, while quilted leather blazers introduce formality to the relaxed occasion. Plaid uniforms and leather-trimmed workwear jackets develop Ekroth’s fascination with unique fabrications, grounding the collection in bulbous silhouettes and loving motifs.
