SoCal-born designer Rick Owens is known as the lord of darkness, infiltrating the creative scene with an everlasting demonic presence. His designs are dark and eerie, walking on sinister lines that play with unnatural proportions. For Fall/Winter 2024, Owens welcomed 100 guests into his Parisian home, paying tribute to the very space that housed his collections 25 years ago.

International creatives gathered to witness his latest creations, looking to unite the community that pushed him into stardom. Owens held three intimate shows previewed to the press, buyers, and friends, expanding his marvelous universe through voluminous archetypes that speak to his masterful craft. The collection, titled “PORTERVILLE,” commemorates Owens’ Californian hometown, honoring his career milestones with utopian soldiers swollen and robust.

Rick Owens darling Tyrone Dylan opened the show as usual, storming the hallow halls of the designer’s Maison. His muscular facade glistened with natural light shining through floor-to-ceiling windows, wearing nothing but cascading ribbed shorts and balloon-like footwear made in collaboration with London-based designer Straytukay. The experimental boots rubbed together with friction, while English designer Leo Prothman reinterpreted the Kiss boot with strapped leather.

The black-eyed models were covered head-to-toe in hooded onesies and larger-than-life jumpers with sharpened Porterville lettering. Owens’ customary pointed puffers protruded above the head while furry creatures landed with immortal energy. Owens looked to upcycling techniques throughout the collection, deconstructing bicycle tires to create rubberized gear from alternative realms. Boxy motorcycle jackets came zipped and perfected, followed by interlocked fur formed into wearable spheres. Owens returned home for FW24, traveling through time and inviting us to experience his world in the process.
