Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO's FW24 Runway Was a Cheer-Infused Techno Rave

“For the past few seasons, I’ve been exhausted by the relentlessness of this fashion “system.” I am wobbling a bit! Stumbling through.”

Japanese designer Mihara Yasuhiro has become a legend on his own terms, growing his design philosophy through disheveled clothing in larger-than-life proportions. Yasuhiro took a time machine to his childhood for Fall/Winter 2024, awakening his inner child through playful creations that balance imagination and reality.

Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO‘s Paris Fashion Week runway show kicked off unexpectedly with dozens of juvenile cheerleaders silently packing the venue. As they threw their pompoms in the air, a fogged case boomed with a florescent glow ignited by a ground-breaking DJ conducting a thundering techno rave.

“For the past few seasons, I’ve been exhausted by the relentlessness of this fashion “system.” As the title of the collection suggests, I am wobbling a bit! Stumbling through,” Yasuhiro told Hypebeast. His loss of balance was reflected across mega-sized silhouettes that keep playfulness at the forefront. His signature design language was evident at every turn, reminding us why we love Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO.

FW24 arrived in a progressive gradient of greys, greens, pinks, yellows, blues, and blacks, opening the runway with fast-paced models in slouchy collarless blazers and glittered jumpers that shined under the spotlight. Colossal denim uniforms and puffed outerwear followed, the latter boasting hidden arm wholes for unorthodox styling. The staple bomber jacket was redefined with gathered fabrics and rounded shoulder blades, completing the collection with floor-length quilted cardigans and glossy patent leather ensembles. “I have stayed true to my House aesthetic since the beginning. I don’t react to trends, and hopefully, people can see that in the clothes. We, the old men, are the ones who are trying to tell the young people: “This is the way it used to be. It was good in the old days.” It’s like we are telling young people, “This is how it used to be.”
