COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS FW24 Is Symbolic of a Spiritual World

In just a few words, Rei Kawakubo‘s show notes for the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS Fall/Winter 2024 collection read, “SPIRITUAL WORLD. White is symbolic of prayer.” Behind the meaning of the phrase, Kawakubo seemingly looks at all that is happening around the world. From global warming to war, the world is in a helpless state and all that one can do is pray.
When attending a CDG show, one is often greeted by bizarre shapes, dramatic colors and other worldly caricatures on the runway. For FW24, Kawakubo seemingly understands that her role in fashion is to offer solace and a sense of calmness through gentle portrayals. The soothing theme comes in the form of neutral black and white colors, with navy and grey being the other hues. Soft textures are portrayed with fuzzy and felted surfaces seen on cutaway jackets. From shrunken blazes to voluminous trousers and pleated skirts, the collection takes on the quintessential Kawakubo aesthetic.
Kawakubo shared with guests her vision of a world of an alternative form of masculinity. While not all of her collection is white, the collection was rooted in the hue with pieces mixing in pear button embroidery and cut out cardigans. Take a look at the full collection above.
