Exploring the Details Behind the New Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5

Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Flip5 marks a new era for the smartphone industry. Tapping into the resurgence of Y2K trends, the tech brand takes the flip phone – synonymous with the era – to the next level with a futuristic spin. Since its launch, the latest gadget has been breaking boundaries in the tech realm as it spotlights new possibilities in daily communication.

Delving into Samsung’s new offering, we tapped creative director Nondumiso Shange, one of the Hypebeast Africa Culture Scouts, to review the latest gadget. From its camera quality to its easy-to-use user experience, she expresses her thoughts on the innovative features, however, was most impressed with how she was able to change her younger siblings’ perception of the device.

Hypebeast: Tell us a bit about your unboxing experience with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5?

Nondumiso Shange: The phone is super fun to use. The UX/UI experience is great, which helps to make the transition from a brand that I’m familiar with much easier.

What are some of the things that stood out most to you?

The camera and the flip part of the phone. My little brothers were super impressed by it, as was I. They’re Gen-Z (19 and 17) and tend to be led by public opinion, or a group mindset, but they saw the Flip5 camera and were sold.

What features do you like most?

The camera quality is A1. The cover and how you can customize your front screen depending on which one you have is also cool. It’s also very easy to carry and extremely portable.

What was the first thing you did when opening your new phone?

I first fiddled with the flip part of the phone when it was in flex mode then swiped between the screens, and was switching the cover images when the new covers were attached. I just wanted to see how much I could customize it. It was really fun as it gives a Y2K vibe yet it’s still very modern too.

What was the first thing you shot with your phone?

Myself and my mom – we took a little video.
