COMME des GARÇONS SS24 Brightens Everything In Sight
Rei Kawakubo presented 19 looks packed with color, featuring puffed and bulbous designs that speak for themselves.
Rei Kawakubo‘s COMME des GARÇONS is much more than fashion. The Japanese designer creates art in grandiose formats, allowing the garments to speak for themselves. While Fall/Winter 2023 explored the origins of life, COMME des GARÇONS’ Spring/Summer 2024 collection previews sculptural artistry across 19 striking looks.
Models walked down an elongated runway surrounded by fashion-hungry attendees eager for a peek at Kawakubo’s latest creations. They wore animated headgear mimicking cartoon wigs, slashed at the cheekbone like Kawakubo’s hairstyle. SS24 breaks free from the gloomy autumn days with a vibrant collection that brightens everything in sight.
COMME des GARÇONS’ first look saw layered petals form voluminous ensembles with belted waistbands, followed by geometrical biker shorts in primary hues. Flowers and plants blossomed across ruffled coats while diverse patterns collided on bulbous designs. Puffed ribbons enhanced tousles garments with historical female characters, seeing spirited costumes grow futuristic limbs with lace decor.
