Bowers & Wilkins Debuts New "Royal Burgundy" Colorway for Px8 Headphones
Offering a variety of active noise-cancellation modes.

Bowers & Wilkins is continuously pushing the boundaries of not only cutting-edge sound quality but also sleek, sophisticated design. Every so often, the British audio brand introduces a new pair of headphones as the flagship offering of the brand.
A few months ago, Bowers & Wilkins rolled out the Px8 as its latest pair of over-the-ear, noise-canceling headphones. The new model features a single-arm structure that ends in two soft ear cushions, enveloping the wearer in sound while granting a comfortable, secure feel.
Previously only available in tan and black, the brand has returned with a “Royal Burgundy” shade. The Nappa leather lining the headphones is a rich red color. And while most of Bowers & Wilkins’ past headphones have had a monochromatic look, designers opted to use striking gold detailing for the exterior of the ear cups and the basis of the headband.
Unlike its predecessor, the Px8 has an aluminum construction based on the brand’s 800 Series Diamond loudspeakers, which it notes is the go-to model used in Abbey Road Studios. The drive units lend themselves to “exceptional stiffness,” a component many wouldn’t necessarily think of when shopping for headphones.
“Stiffness is an important aspect in loudspeaker and headphone design: you could think of it rather like the chassis in a race car,” Bowers & Wilkins’ Andy Kerr tells Hypebeast. “Because the chassis is stiff, a race car’s suspension works more effectively, meaning a better driving experience around the circuit.”
“In loudspeakers and headphones, a stiffer construction means the rapidly moving ‘drive units’ – the small speakers inside each headphone ear cup – can operate more effectively and waste less of their energy in unwanted vibration that would otherwise be transferred into the headphone itself. Essentially, you get to hear more of what you’re supposed to hear.”
The Px8 is available now on the Bowers & Wilkins website for $699 USD.
