Tissot Unveils “Ice Blue” and “Radiant Gold” Examples of Its PRX 35mm Powermatic 80
Featuring a timeless design with minimal deviation from the original 1978 model.

Tissot has just unveiled its latest offering, the PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 in “Ice Blue” and “Radiant Gold,” offering a subtle modern touch to a timeless silhouette that it first introduced in 1978.
The Swiss watchmaker, shared that PR stands for “Particularly Robust” or “Precision and Resistance” and that at the time of the model’s first introduction, it ran ads with copy indicating the PRX was meant to be used “On the track, in the air, in the water — everywhere!”
Early success of the PRX model was largely due to the ahead-of-its-time technology that it embodied, including a floating movement, flexible joints for shock absorption and advanced waterproof capabilities due to armored glass recessed to a thick case.
Like any good design, Tissot hasn’t had to change much about the PRX since the late ’70s, besides technical and material improvements. When it comes to aesthetics the PRX has stayed true to its roots, offering a timepiece that echoes the free-spirited energy of the era it was born in.
Notable design elements on this latest iteration of the PRX include waffled dials, which on the “Ice Blue” variation are said to catch the light like snow on a crisp Alpine morning. As for the Gold variant, Tissot says it acts as “a toast to the vibrant ’70s disco era, bringing an unmistakable dash of boldness to the wearer’s style.”
The waffle dials aren’t meant only for style purposes but also to indicate that they are automatic models and in so differentiate them from their quartz counterparts. Each of the watches uses Tissot’s Powermatic 80 automatic movement, which offers 80 hours of power reserve and is encased in a 35mm steel body that features polished and satin finishes.
Amongst some of the subtle yet modern updates to the PRX include a date display at 3 o’clock that is housed in a beveled and applied window. Additional details include the indices, hour and minute hands being coated with Super-LumiNova to ensure visibility in low light.
It is Tissot’s hope that these new offerings will “Inspire you to not just witness time but to live it in your style.” The latest examples of the PRX 35mm Powermatic 80 in “Ice Blue” and “Radiant Gold” are available now on the watchmaker’s official site, with a retail of $771 USD and $942 USD respectively.
