Hypebeast: Explain your brand to people who may not know you yet.

Old Old Woods: Old Old Woods (OOW) is a mid-century furniture store with a focus on unique pieces and a spirit of sustainability. It aims to bring creativity, design and comfort into personal and public spaces, highlighting the beauty of design and furniture around us and making this furniture era more attainable for many.

What’s the journey been like from starting your brand, to where you are today?

I am a practicing scientist, and in this world, we are taught to share outcomes of tests or experiments, which then aid others with information to solve their problems. In this sense, OOW was an experimental gift to myself, as it was (and still is) a form of therapy emphasizing on self-restoration through furniture restoration. The transition from this therapeutic endeavor into a business has come with some challenges but has also been organic – linked to my belief that everything considered ‘broken’ could be “fixed” and, most of all, valued (self-appreciation and love).

My journey of self-development led me to an honest appreciation of furniture and interiors, especially the designs from the time of the Industrial Revolution, where they were really pushing boundaries by using new materials and shapes to bring their concepts to life.

The organic growth of my business mirrors this inspiration, as I am very passionate about pushing new boundaries for this generation by sharing these “forgotten” items and being a platform that highlights all these beautiful things in plain sight if only we looked. I believe design is not meant to be disposed of. And OOW has grown into being about how we consider sustainability and how I ‘renew’ this appreciation of design, from what I present for people to engage with on the site to how these once-forgotten items move into new homes, spaces, and beyond, cultivating richer value and continued stories.

OOW moving into a home interior brand has taken some learning, but I believe in my eye for finding gems! I wish to present them in ways that reflect how I perceive furniture, and I want to make these unique and beautiful items more accessible to a wide audience.

Flea is going to be hosted for the first time in the UK. How does the UK’s creative community inspire you and your brand?

The creative community in the UK is constantly evolving, helping people to experience design in a variety of ways. It has definitely had an impact on my development as a brand in terms of the confidence to explore new influences and to strike conversations with community and creatives. This inspiration and community is what gave me the opportunity to branch out into interior design – and I am very excited for the future and growth of OOW.

What have you got planned at Hypebeast Flea?

To soak up all the positive vibes, share the journey of OOW, and present what it offers to others — related to my perspective of bringing creativity, design, and comfort to public or personal space.

What other vendors are you looking forward to checking out at Hypebeast Flea?

Holsales and Robyn Lynch.
