The Tenth Grail Watch Release Features an Endearing Collaboration Between Father and Son

Following the Moritz Grossmann x Kari Voutilainen’s stunning Benu 37 “Silver Bullet” watch release, Grail Watch just unveiled its tenth collaborative time-telling offering. This time around, Grail Watch partners with independent watchmaker, Ludovic Ballouard for a truly special timepiece.

In terms of design, the Ludovic Ballouard et Fils Upside Down “Series Gaga” can be viewed as an exemplification of Ballouard’s eccentric aesthetics, but more importantly, it’s the first piece that the watchmaker has created with his son, Gabriel. In fact, the watch’s name derived from Gabriel, with the “Gaga” part serving as an endearing homage.

Based on Ballouard’s iconic Upside Down watch, the “Series Gaga” is outfitted in a 41mm platinum case, and paired with a matching crown between the 2 and 3 o’clock marks. The eye-catching aventurine dial comes with 12 hour disks, overlayed with Gabriel’s colorful doodles from when he was three years old. At the turn of every hour, the upside-down numerals will jump, revealing a corrected version that’s indicated with a dot.

Powering this unique timepiece is an in-house patented B01 caliber, geared jumping hour as well as a power reserve of up to 36 hours. On the caseback, the wearer can relish in the beauty of the watch’s complications, which comes encircled with 12 Maltese crosses.

Priced at 108,000 CHF (approximately $122,686 USD), it will be available as a souscription-only release, with only eight examples made. Four of the editions feature Chinese characters, while the other four come with Breguet numerals. The Ludovic Ballouard et Fils Upside Down “Series Gaga” will be available via Grail Watch’s official website starting August 24 at 10 a.m. EST.
